Facilities

The majority of liver transplant evaluation will be conducted at UNC Health Care locations in Chapel Hill, NC.

UNC Hospitals is a nationally recognized medical and research institution with more than 775 beds. We offer the entire range of adult medical and surgical services, with dedicated women’s, children’s, cancer, and neurosciences hospitals here on the UNC medical campus.

We provide the following services and facilities to our transplant patients:

  • Dedicated pre-transplant physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • State-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT Scanning
  • Comprehensive therapeutic vascular interventional radiology
  • Comprehensive endoscopy, including ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and choledochoscopy
  • Cutting-edge chemo-therapeutic protocols for liver cancer
  • Conformal external beam radiotherapy for liver cancer (Cyberknife)
  • State-of-the-art laboratories, including a tissue typing lab
  • Extensive post-transplant rehabilitation
  • Outpatient liver biopsies
  • Adult, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units
  • A full complement of consultative sub-specialties, including transplant infectious disease
  • Specialized operating rooms for hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgery
  • Adult and pediatric nurses specially trained in the care of transplant patients
  • Daily transplant clinics for patient evaluation and post-operative follow-up
  • Carolina Air Care, providing helicopter and fixed-wing transport service
